Well, it was quite a production to pay off my ill advised wager with The Vol Abroad. While I try to be magnanimous in defeat, my son felt no obligation to such generosity. No matter how much I tried to convince him to smile and take his lumps, he insisted on making his feelings known about this new fashion scheme that was foisted upon him. Even in defeat, young Z is defiant.

For those of you who were lucky enough not to experience the Nightmare in Knoxville, it was pretty much over the first time that Tennessee touched the ball. The Vols dominated Georgia in pretty much every aspect of the game even, and it pains me to say this, coaching. As a Bulldog fan, it was absolute misery, but I held on listening to the bitter end – that is my mandate as a fan. I can’t say I enjoyed it – particularly since the Vol Abroad was confident enough to put up a winning post by half time and I had promised to dress my only son in the flourescent hues of the Tennessee Volunteers.

A bet’s a bet and a loss is a loss. Fortunately (is that the word I’m looking for?) Dr O’C’s Mum had the foresight -  or lack of confidence – to by Z a new orange top. So here you go. We both look much better in red and black and the dog’s a bit annoyed by that stamp on his forehead. But in the words of the immortal Townes Van Zandt: “Well I lost, I mean I lost – I don’t much care for it either, but I lost.”

We’ve got to go back to Tennessee next week to try and avenge last year’s loss to SEC powerhouse Vanderbilt. Let’s just hope that things to go from worse to worst. Go Dawgs!

Even though I thoroughly enjoyed it, for my son’s sake Daddy’s going to think twice about getting into any more feuds…
