Game Day: The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party
Well, Z and I would like to talk some trash today, but that’s a hard thing to do as a Georgia Bulldog fan when you’ve lost 15 of the last 17 to the Florida Gators. That is a source of shame and frustration to all self respecting Dawg fans. There is no good reason to believe that this is going to get any better this year. The Gators are the defending national champions, and while they are likely out of the national championship race this year, they are still a very strong opponent. They are led by Heisman Trophy candidate Tim Tebow, although a lot of folks think that the Teabag is massively overrated. Georgia is in the midst of a rebuilding year with a very young offensive line and only three returning starters on defense. To be completely honest, the Dawgs have stunk up the field on a couple of occasions this year.
But, all that aside, I’m starting to be optimistic about this year’s game. The Gators are a one dimensional team offensively. Beyond Tebow, there is not much to them. He’s a little bit banged up and they rely so heavily on him that if anything goes wrong the Gators will be without an offense. If the Dawgs get off the bus with the right attitude and go after the Gators hard and don’t make mistakes then this could be the start of turning that 15-2 record around. It’s time to show up, boys.
Z and I know that Georgia’s got the big advantage when it come to the intangibles. The University of Georgia is the oldest land grant university in the nation and the finest in the South. It’s the flagship institution of a state that’s produced great writers, musicians, artist and even presidents. UF is an upstart college built in a swamp in a state that’s produced drug dealers and people who can’t vote properly.
Z’s catching up on some Zs ahead of kickoff. It’s 3:30 p.m. Eastern (8:30 in Britain, thank goodness) on CBS if you’re in the States and internet radio around the world. Munson won’t be in Jacksonville to call today’s game, but let’s hope Scott Howard has a chance to make his own place in Georgia Bulldog radio history as Larry did in 1980 (see the video). Let’s hunker down Dawgs and send these reptiles back to their murky home with a big L to deal with. Go Dawgs!!
