I just realized that I’ve used songs from The Be Good Tanyas for two of the last three Wordless Wednesday posts. It seems only fair to talk a little about this wonderful band. I use music with a lot of my posts for two reasons, one is to give people who are reading it a sort of soundtrack to go along with the post. Second, I’m hoping to introduce people to bands and musicians that I think are exceptional. The Be Good Tanyas are one of these excellent bands – they are a trio of women from Vancouver, British Columbia. Their music is based in sort of traditional folk, country and bluegrass with a modern twist. They cover old time standards – “Oh, Susanna” – and modern pop songs – “When Doves Cry” – but their original songs are the best. They are excellent musicians switching back and forth between guitar, banjo and mandolin and heir three part vocal harmonies are beautifully haunting.

If you like either the song I featured today or two weeks ago, then consider buying one of The Be Good Tanyas three albums – I would recommend their 2006 record “Hello, Love”. They are all available from The Be Good Tanyas and Amazon and eMusic.
