The family has returned safely – if a little jet lagged and sniffly – from The Great White North.
Tonight we’re off to a Scottish friend’s Hogmanay bash. As far as I can tell, Hogmanay is just the Scots’ word for New Year’s Eve, but if anyone out there knows more than I – unlikely as that may be – I’d love to hear about it.
I’ve got lots of pictures and stories to share, but today is for recovery, unpacking and readjusting to Greenwich time. Looking forward to getting back to the blogging routine but until then – here’s a teaser of a fascinated Z in the Heathrow departure lounge and a Death Cab for Cutie song. Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!
How nice it must feel to be in your own home again and sleeping in your own bed. I’m looking forward to reading all about your trip and Zach’s first Christmas.
Have fun tonight. ‘Hogmanay’… there’s my something learned for today.

Welcome home and Happy New Year! You’ve been missed. Look forward to stories and pics..the teaser is a beauty! At that point you still seemed to have it all ‘together’. Did it last? We wait with baited breath.

yo hogmanay info can be found at good ole http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hogmanay
when i was wee we had presents at new year not christmas from the older members of my family cos that is how it was when they grew up. also in my family someone has to bring you coal when they first foot you otherwise you’ll have bad luck for the whole of the next year. when i was in canada for new year 06 and 07 no-one brought me any coal. shit, no-one brought me coal this year either! ach whatever there was a fire going at the party I was at and someone put new fuel on it after midnight before I went outside so that counts, meaning this year is going to be good. YEAH!!!
