“Let’s dance to Joy Division,
And celebrate the irony,
Everything is going wrong,
But we’re so happy…”
The Wombats are a Liverpudlian trio making a bit of noise with their cleverly penned indie pop songs. This week’s MP3 isn’t a particularly new one (it was released in the summer), but it finally got my attention this weekend. I’ve always been a fan of this kind of “thinking man’s pop” – think Fountains of Wayne,The Dandy Warhols or The Flaming Lips. The Wombats are the latest in a series of this kind of indie pop coming out of Britain, recently populated by The Kooks, The Zutons and The Fratellis. Time will tell if they’ve got something special, but “Let’s Dance to Joy Division” is a great little tongue in cheek pop song. Enjoy!
Here are links to some of my other Wombats’ favorites:
The Wombats’ full length debut “The Wombats Proudly Present… A Guide To Love, Loss and Desperation” is available in the UK from Amazon. It’s import only in the States, I’m afraid.

I like it! I think I’ll go to iTunes and sample the rest. The song you featured today has real earworm potential!
There’s something waiting for you over at my site today. Come take a look when you have a moment.

Oh God. The Baby Angel plays this NONSTOP……. I did like it to begin with………:-)
On another note…..do you know why they are called The Wombats? Ask Sinead about the old wombat joke……don’t know if it has relevance but I suspect so……

Ok, reality check for me. I’m picking bands that 13 (is she 13) year old girls are fans of. I’ll be writing about the Spice Girls next.
Sinead doesn’t know the wombat joke, she’s pretty much a Pom these days.
