SSG: You're assuming that I'm nurturing Baby Z. Thanks also for the TMI moment.

PITS: I don't necessarily think that there's anything wrong with fierce introversion, just makes growing up that much more difficult. Or at least on appearances the people who are socially competent seem to be having an easier time of it.

Ariza: I think that the emphasis would have been on "not", the second "not", or "necessarily" maybe. Hell, I can't remember. As for lack of fierce introversion - I've gotten to know y'all now, so you won't be able to shut me up.

I am assuming that the phrase
'I'm not sure someone not crying when they see you is necessarily a sign of being well balanced'
has the emphasis on the word 'you'?
Anyway, I didn't see too much evidence of fierce introversion the other night. There seemed to be plenty of sociabibility there!!

Hey, let me welcome myself to this blog, first of all. He is cute, I'll give you that. Nothing wrong with fierce introversion. Or is there? Damn. My Honey is also the social one. It actually got to the point that people think I have a hug-a-phobia. She just hugs everyone. I'm a bit more selective with my arms.

hey, working in child protection you see how much nuture has a lot of influence over nature, or more than really 'nuture', more like environmental factors play a big effect- things people say or do when you are a child can have a big impact, more than I thought. random encounters with strangers in the street, times at school, holidays etc all make you who you are.

also would you like to know i lost my virginity to bonnie prince bille's version, and i love that song, but not for that reason, as that was pretty shit. but the song rocks!

Yeah, so chances are he'll have the Drama Queen allele as well! Thanks for making my point.

Arizaphale, I'm not sure that someone not crying when they see you is necessarily a sign of being mentally well balanced.

Thanks for the poem, J, that rocks!

I was having a similar conversation with an English prof. friend of mine (who has a little girl same age as ours), worrying about what horrible personality traits of mine I would pass on to my daughter. She suggested this poem from Philip Larkin:

 This Be The Verse

They fuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.

But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another's throats.

Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don't have any kids yourself.

As you might surmise, it did not make me feel any better.

Sometimes a photo is just a photo. But those long commutes when one is tired and alone make it easy to go down that road. From one fellow traveller to another, anyway.
