Hope

Three reasons I voted for President Barack Obama:

“This is our chance to answer that call. This is our moment. This is our time — to put our people back to work and open doors of opportunity for our kids; to restore prosperity and promote the cause of peace; to reclaim the American Dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth — that out of many, we are one; that while we breathe, we hope, and where we are met with cynicism, and doubt, and those who tell us that we can’t, we will respond with that timeless creed that sums up the spirit of a people:

Yes We Can.”

Here’s his Election night speech as an MP3 file. In case you want to hear it again…

  1. Obama said
“It’s the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled - Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been just a collection of individuals or a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are, and always will be, the United States of America. ”
so can he not just over-turn the anti-gay laws? it’s a basic human right to be with the person they love, as it’s not harming anyone else. I really don’t get it, it’s just WRONG (i mean stopping people from living their lives in peace). Ugh.

  2. Nothing is more beautiful, peaceful and innocent than a sleeping baby. Nothing. What an appropriate symbol for what I hope is a new era in American politics.

oh man, that speech. i had such an emotional reaction to it, to the sight of him and his beautiful family on that stage, to his sincerity, to the thought that even as he is celebrating he is mourning his grandmother, and even though he’s won, the real work has just begun.

  7. it’s what needed to happen. i found myself succumbing to the sentimentality of the moment; however, i disagree with sentimentality in politics. is that wrong of me?

  8. Oh yes we did!!
It was a wonderful speech, something we haven’t heard from an American president in over 8 years (Clinton could give a speech but not like Obama can!). Even my jaded old heart was moved, and I confess: I sniffled a bit.

I’m really hoping things will turn around, and I really hope he’s the man to do it.

SSG - I think you commented on the wrong post. This is the warm and fuzzy one. ;)

NS - Yeah, I love that one. I was scared I was going to wake him up. Violating the “never wake a baby” rule.

Gypsy - No, warm and fuzzy! ;)

Marcy/Matthew - I originally was a bit disappointed by his speech, certainly not one of his better ones. But the more I listen to it, in context, the more it gets to me.

Courtney - Would be hard to be cuter!

Carrie - Nope, I usually do as well. But this election seemed a lot different than usual.

We Be Toys - Exactly, there’s something different about Obama.

Joe - I imagine you have a good one as well!

  11. That first shot, with the back lighting, is brilliant. Let’s hope Obama is as good as his rhetoric.
