Well, now that Christmas is over for another 365, A Free Man’s holiday can start in earnest. I’ve got a house near the beach, Dr. O’C, Boy Z, and Timmins, and no work until January 5. I’ve got five days of test cricket on the TV. It just doesn’t get much better than that.
Because I’m working at holiday pace, you’ve still got plenty of time to enter to win all ten of my Top 10 albums of 2008. Just leave a comment, any kind of comment, on this post.

It would be great if you would be able to explain the cricket game to me. Baseball with milk bottles and no gloves?
Have a wonderful holiday.

If you’re a cricket fan, I highly recommend Netherland by Joseph O’Neill. It’s one of the New York Times notable books of 2008. A sub plot involves an attempt to start a professional cricket league in New York City. It’s a fantastic read and, for someone like me who knows very little about cricket, a real eye-opener!

When you say “test cricket” you really mean Best of UGA Football right? Circa 1980?

What the hell is test cricket? Please tell me it is not some sort of cricket spring training. Sinead, if Chris has time to watch cricket spring training, he has time to clean up every soiled diaper Z poops out. Oh, Unbearable Banishment, just got Netherland for a Christmas gift and I am cracking it now. Starts great.

Ariza – Are you kidding? Heaven.
Busy Dad – If you’re a baseball fan, you would love cricket once you learn the rules. It’s actually a fantastic game. Better than the alternatives over here – soccer, Aussie football or rugby.
Chris – We are.
TUB – I will definitely check that book out.
April – I’m guessing that the sarcasm is implied.
HIF – Nope. Though I wouldn’t mind that.
Jamie – It’s kind of the opposite of spring training – the height of the cricket season, cricket at it’s byzantine and glacial finest. Australia – South Africa, my friend. The number one and two teams in the world. So, Zach will just have to change his own damn nappy for a few days.
Heather – Glad you’re enjoying it.
Xbox – If Ireland were any good at cricket I suspect you’d be singing a different tune. Instead, the Irish (like the Americans) just play sports that nobody else in the world does.

test cricket, nothing better. pleased to see that you’ve been indoctrinated into this oh so wonderful way to spend five glorious days on the couch, yelling at the screen, drinking beer (coopers of course) and, if you’re really lucky, sneaking in a bbq. yes, you’re really one of us now – insert evil laugh. Bet Hussey’s not smiling some much after dropping that catch. Sit right down my wicked son, indeed.

I was just shredding my throat to that song yesterday on my playlist of songs I like to holler along with. Heavy on the Pixies.
Five days of cricket? Isn’t that just one match?

Joe – Glad you’re liking it. Did you buy it from iTunes via my site? Somebody bought an album through a link from here and I would like to reward them with a free album as offered earlier. Send me an e-mail if it was you.
Eden – Thank f&%k indeed.
Kitty – I don’t know if blows is too strong, he didn’t do well in the second innings either. I know what you mean about Ponting as well!
Yello – regrettably, no. But there aren’t that many interesting ones this year anyway.
Casey – Nope, but you lost anyway.
Carrie – Doing a little dance – can you see?
Father Muskrat – Keeping my eyes peeled for the Bantha that roam the Adelaide plain.
Mickey – Yep, that’s one match. That’s the beauty of cricket.
