It’s starting to feel like Autumn in South Australia – a little bit cooler, shorter days, the occasional drop of moisture in the air – which means that we’ll be doing less of this….

…on Boy Z and Papa Party Days.
But not to worry. We’ve been working on some indoor entertainment. A lot of you may not know this but, being the good father that I am, I’ve made Boy Z’s troubled teenage years much easier for him. In a moment of parental brilliance, Formerly Fun’s Chris and I have arranged a marriage between Boy Z and her Bebe. Before you get all liberal, freedom of choice-sque and human rights-y on me, just think about it. How much easier would the age of 15 be knowing that you’ve got a beautiful California girl waiting for you? 90% of teenage angst vaporised. He’ll thank me for it.
At any rate, Chris is forever showing off her Bebe’s dance moves and I’ve started to worry a bit. Boy Z hasn’t demonstrated much in the rhythm department. What’s he going to do at the wedding? There’s nothing worse than watching the groom stumble and bumble through the first dance. Well, as the summer days turn a bit cooler and we have more time indoors, I’ve decided that one of my paternal obligations is to teach Boy Z to dance.
If you have a look below, I think you’ll agree that we’re doing pretty well. It’s a bit manic punk rock right now and the only song he’ll dance to is the Barenaked Ladies’ “It’s All Been Done”. But it’s absolutely worth hearing that song 647 times in the last few days to watch this kind of unspoiled joy.

Still no internet at home and with a four day weekend ahead of us, I doubt that it will be getting sorted for the short term. So, my continued apologies for infrequent posting and commenting. Oh, and a festive holiday weekend to you all, gentle readers.
We’ll be dancing.

I am starting to suspect that this blog, which parades itself as witty social commentary with uber street cool musical references with a touch of science show-off-ery is just an excuse for you to post pictures of Boy Z at the beach so as to piss off friends and family in colder climes.

What a spectacular video! I think his moves are coming along just fine, and I think he has good taste in music.
Also, I love that layout. How neat!

Boy Z is so cute and happy! What a great kid. I know Jocelyn’s a little young for him, but if things don’t work out, there’s another California girl available

#1 I challenge anyone to have a dance off with the bebe, video history will show, her mooves are smoove.
#2 Z’s moves are coming along, they are not quite mooves yet but close and the keyboard playing was awesome.
#3 All you feather rufflers, find your own cute Aussie boy, we’ve got dibs on Z.
#4 Freeman, holy production values Batman.

And here in the lovely New York/New Jersey corridor the buds are just starting to appear and the daffodils are pushing their way out of the earth. You forget how big the world is until you stumble across a post like this. When you flush your commode, does the water circulate counter-clockwise? If you’re not sure, can you go check for me?

What are you, Indian? I read somewhere that arranged marriages are more likely to last than the “others,” so you may be on to something.

Yankee firmly believes in arranged marriages. He thinks he could have done much better for my sister than she did for herself. The problem with the arranged marriage is you are denying Z his own Blanche Dubious, and every man must have that in his life.

that is the coolest thing i’ve ever seen! i’m going to show my husband and see if he can figure out how to do it to our videos.
thanks for sharing that. it made me smile and think back to when my kids were that little. i loved the part when he’s spinning around and then stops and kind of goes “whoa” and teeters a bit. then he starts right up again! : )

Ok, I have to tell you, I have played this for Isabella a few times and I think she is smitten.
Mostly because she sees Z and squeals “baby” and claps when he claps.
I think that settles it, kismet.

Very cute!
I actually became in favor of arranged marriages during my divorce. I figure my parents could have done way better than I did picking me out a husband.
Also, I heard the Decemberists on the radio AND this morning I heard that Guy Clark song with the cape.

Well, you could always revert back to the traditional Southern Baptist wedding reception, where the drinking is relegated to the parking lot and the dancing was forbidden.

Okay, okay, okay. Cute baby. Yes. Doing beach karate. What was that little thinger with all the buttons that he ran up to and played with? Is it like, a super-souped master control spaceship dashboardy thing? With buttons that light up? Could I be a space ranger with that?
If I ever have kids, they’re getting that.

SSG – No doubt – get quilting girl.
Teri – I’m glad.
Kitty – Are you just working that out now?
Angel – iMovie at work. You’ve got to love Macs!
HIF – I keep saying the same thing to Dr. O’C!
Nichole – If number 2 is a girl, she’s yours. Or Graham’s, more accurately.
April – It ain’t easy, but if you guys are still using Macs it’s doable. You need iMovie and iDVD (if you want to burn to DVDs). And some time.
Chris #1 – I know, Boy Z still has some work to do.
#2 – He’s a nascent Jerry Lee Lewis, hopefully without the incest.
#3 – Don’t worry. No Aussie girls are going to be allowed in the house.
#4 – Again, iMovie. No skills on my part.
SIS – In time? Come on!
Nathan – What are you trying to say? Are you saying that I can’t dance? Are you challenging me to a dance off? Bring it on, farm boy.
TUB – Re the toilet issue. It’s not as simple as you might think. I still don’t actually know the answer. I know we drive on the left, though. How does that suit you?
CMGD – Dervish! You’re dead right on that one.
Mongola – You will actually. I got sick from the heat once or twice in Mid-Misery corn fields.
Muskrat – I do like a good curry.
NATUI – Did thanks!
Alice – Potential! Come on, he’s a star!
Katie – That’s what I’m saying. How often have you gone to a wedding and started a pool on how long it was going to last? What? That’s just me?
Theresa – Aw. You people are harsh!
Cat – That’s a good point. Every boy needs a femme fatale somewhere along the way.
MJRC – That’s my favorite part as well. If my video editing skills were better I would have highlighted that one.
Chris – Good. Maybe we can minimize the coercion necessary.
Maureen – Thanks. I try to treasure, but some days – oy.
Jill – Ditto.
Joe – The thing is, our winter is kind of like your Autumn.
Jud – I can’t imagine anything more painful…
Rassles – A keyboard. Pretty good, eh?
Erin – You weren’t a kid at the right time, clearly. Or you had the wrong Dad
