As an update to Wednesday’s post:
Nobby’s Pork Crackle – Saturated Fat: 5.7g/100g
Heinz Little Kids Yogurt Meusli Fingers (Sultana Apple) – Saturated Fat 8.1g/100g
In other words, in many ways* you are better off feeding your kid fried pork skin than these Heinz snacks that are designed for toddlers.

*To be fair, the Pork Crackles have loads of salt. But then the Heinz bars have loads of sugar. Six of one?

Have you ever had fresh pork rinds, just off the pig? They sell them in markets in Latin America – truly fantastic.
Sheesh, feed ‘em something off the tree.
BTW, 76 days to go???? OMG!!! Maybe you should have a Virtual Bebe Shower, how $$ is shipping to AU anyhow?

I’m kind of passionate about this topic, you may have guessed that from my original comment. But I figure since I personally don’t eat that healthy, but least I can do is feed my kids really well…
not sure if you ever clicked on my food blog– I haven’t updated it in a million years but if you’re ever looking for some ideas on sneaking healthy stuff into your food look at deviouslydelicious.com (my former food blog).
oops, see it has been too long– it’s deviouslydelicious.blogspot.com

I once visited a state fair featuring a booth where a guy was making pork rinds and serving them fresh out of the grease.
OMG! A love affair began that day . . .
Salt be damned!

I dunno, for me the decision would still depend on the specific ingredients. In my mind, saturated or unsaturated, plant fat is still better than animal fat because animal fat will be higher in pesticides even if they were the same as far as saturated vs. unsaturated. And, the additives could always swing me one way or the other.
The big surprise for a lot of people I think is that you have to actually read the ingredients to know what you’re eating. Really, you have to not just read them, but understand them. And a lot of people never get over that. They think, “If it’s not safe to eat, why would they sell it!?!” And the answer, as always, is “To make money.” It’s certainly not to keep your kids safe & healthy. Although if more people payed attention and cared, :safe and healthy” would sell as well as “cheap and disease promoting”.

Now wait here’s something funny – I always think your titles must be song lyrics, even if I don’t know the song. So when I saw your title in my bloglines my initial though was, “There’s a song about feeding your kid pork rinds?!”

OK folks, just to clarify, I’m not proposing you feed your kids either pork rinds or Heinz Little Kids junk.
Jamie – No, but that sounds like something that I should try!
Chris – I know. If it comes off a tree, it’s probably pretty good. Shipping to Oz is many $$$$.
FGIS – I don’t eat healthy at all. Hence having Nobby’s pork crackles in the house. But I’m thinking of changing that up a bit. I’m starting to get a bit concerned about food.
Tys – I love salt. More than sugar.
Jill – Since this wasn’t a proper post I figured that the song lyrics were unnnecessary.
Although you did, much to my disgust! and even worse, Zach loved them.
Tyler’s snack yesterday afternoon… a freshly picked radish from the garden. He LOVED IT. He held it by the green leafy area and ate the thing like it was a carrot. It was awesome.

Pork Rinds taste better than baby muesli yogurt fingers.
As for the rest, I will be a touch “holier than thou” for a second and say the I made my kiddos baby food and snacks at home. I was COMPLETELY scared off of mass produced baby food by a Vet Prof on the European Union Mad Cow committee.

Dr. O’C – He had ONE!
Joe – A radish? Wow. You’ve got one of those rare kids who will voluntarily eat vegetables.
Mongola – MMmmm. It’s apple season here. Nothing better than a fresh apple.
Nathan – Yeah, but what about that crucial daily requirement for fried?
NATUI – Thanks for the creepy cabbage patch visual…
Heather – Pork rinds taste better than most things.
