Formerly Fun’s Chris suggested posting a side-by-side shot of Boy Z and Not Max. Everyone who has seen Not Max remarks on how much he looks like his brother, so I thought it would be an interesting experiment. I went one step further and put them in the same outfit. Both photos were taken at 25 days old – Boy Z’s on the day of the Tennessee game in 2007, and Not Max’s on the day of the Arizona State game today. Those of you that have been readers for a long time may remember how that Tennessee game went. We’re hoping for a better result today. Without scrolling further down, can you tell which one is which?

Actually, when I look at them like this, I see a lot of differences – they aren’t as similar looking as I thought. Not Max is fairer and a bit wrinklier.
It’s Boy Z on the left, by the way.
I’ve sat down to listen to the game alone today. We shipped Boy Z off to his Nana’s house for the night and Not Max is slumbering away this Sunday morning. But I know that both my boys are cheering on the Dawgs in spirit as they take on the Arizona State Sun Devils.
If you’ll permit another family photo as well as a clumsy segue – speaking of Devils, I see a bit of the glint of one in Boy Z’s eyes lately…

All righty then, time for kickoff. Sic ‘em Dawgs!
UPDATE
Phew. Why can’t we win one by a couple touchdowns, just to keep my blood pressure down?

R.E.M.’s “Reckoning” is one of those albums that you just have to own. Even if you don’t think you’re an R.E.M. fan, if you haven’t listened to any of their pre-”Green” recordings, this one is definitely worth a listen. R.E.M. at their Byzantine mumbling best. Musical kudzu. Buy “Reckoning” from

I can tell a difference between the boys, and it was a good idea to have them in the same outfit. That is a great picture of Dr. O’C. holding the baby and Boy Z sitting on the back of the chair. by the way, wonder why kids like to play with mom’s hair.

What a cute idea, there are definitely differences, but I think as they grow up people will probably be able to see the family resemblance.

Big difference. Not Max does not howl with fear when he sees me!!!! In fact, I think we are bonding quite nicely
Mind you Boy Z seems to tolerate me a lot better than Baby Z did! Whew. I thought I was losing my touch.
As for winning (or losing) by narrow margins, the AFL has been full of nail biters lately! Unfortunately the mighty Bays (Glenelg) came off on the wrong end of a nail biter today (5 point loss)meaning Sturt go into the final with Central Districts. Himself is gutted. At least Geelong beat the Saints by a hair’s breadth yesterday!!

I love the family photo. Isn’t it nice that they make mommy look so pretty?
And um, go football.

Well what’d'ya know – I would have guessed right, though I think the reason I chose the way I did had more to do with the look on their faces in the photos (first baby look – “I like this nice, calm little family!” Second baby look – “Is a toy about to land on my face? Where’s that other small human I so adore and fear?”) Very funny on the hair/devil photo!

Technobabe – Well, I suspect because it gets him attention.
Sarala – Thanks.
April – I think there will definitely be a family resemblance!
Ariza – I was actually pulling for St. Kilda because of their colors and the fact they hadn’t won in 43 years.
Andrea – I love my readers enthusiasm for football.
Jill – You’re absolutely right, I couldn’t put my finger on it but Boy Z does look more serene. Fact of the matter is, Not Max may turn out to be a more serene baby.
FF – Well, he’s doing something to her hair..

Based on this photo evidence, I’d say the boys definitely share a strong patrilineal resemblance. This situation also is true with my husband and his several brothers. For those of us who know them well, it’s not hard at all to distinguish one from another — I mean there’s a strong resemblance, but they’re hardly identical! Yet each of the brothers has had the experience of unexpectedly running into some old acquaintance or distant relative who felt it necessary to ask, “Which one are you?”

Aw, babies. We do that experiment with cousins too. Funny thing Niece S looks like baby me. Funny.
As far as the hair nothin’ says party like making Mama purty.
They are cuties. I will wait to hear about little devils in a year or two. Take care, they’ll be able to plot against you.

TRB – Yeah, they’re going to look alike and probably too much like me for their liking.
Heather – Fully expecting that.
Rassles – Me too.
Muskrat – Stupid Georgia. Damn it. They’re playing the UGA-LSU game on the TV down here this weekend and I can not wait. Will be the first time I’ve seen a game live since 2004.
