Things are about to get real serious for my beloved Georgia Bulldogs. They’ve scraped together three wins in a row and are somehow favored to beat the fourth ranked Lousiana State University Tigers in Athens this weekend. Despite their top five ranking, LSU has failed to whelm in their four wins thus far this season and are highly suspect as they come into Sanford Stadium. They’re ripe for the picking and I’m hoping that the Dawgs are ready to harvest. This is a huge conference match-up and will pretty much set the tone for the rest of the season for both teams.
If I were forced to make a prediction, I’ve got two scenarios. First, the Dawgs keep up with the penalties and the turnovers that have plagued us all year long and finally get the sound thrashing we deserve. Second, and I certainly hope that this is the case, the Dawgs finally get it tightened up and LSU is the paper tiger that it seems. In that case, we win another close one in a hypertension inducing fashion.
While I find it disturbing that all the ‘experts’ are picking Georgia, I do think that we pull out another squeaker – Georgia 31, LSU 28.
More importantly, I’ve been the recipient of some pretty good news this week (more on that later) but this…

…is just the best. For the first time since 2004, I’ll be able to watch the Dawgs, live on the TV. No internet radio, no dodgy internet video – live, HD on the big damn TV that Dr. O’C made us buy. God bless you, One HD. Now, this probably means that they’re going to get soundly trounced, but at least I’ll get to see it happen. Boy Z and I will be up at the crack of 6:00 a.m. on Sunday to cheer on the Dawgs, we may even drag month old Not Max out of bed for the special occasion.
I’m wondering how long Boy Z’s attention will hold up before he asks for Bob the Freakin’ Builder*.
No chance, my boy.
It’s time to hunker down, Dawgs.

UPDATE
Well, it was a hell of a game to get to watch.

If I could bring myself to care about football I would cheer Georgia on just because I hated dealing with LSU football when I was in Baton Rouge. Alas, I probably won’t remember because I’ll be getting my aggressions out on the polo field.
I think Bob the Builder must be reasonably popular here because I’ve heard of it and I don’t have kids.

So now you’ll get to see your beloved Dawgs on TV. Be careful of what you wish for! They were doing just fine without your intervention. Superstitions can breed fact.

Since I’m in Canada (another Commonwealth nation), my information doesn’t help, but yeah, he’s big here too.
I don’t quite know your pain, but I can empathize: with a shitty NFL team and living out of their local coverage area, the only national game I get for the Lions is the Thanksgiving Day one, and they’re talking about ending that tradition too.

I for one am happy for you that you and Boy Z will be watching the game on the lovely TV. Hopefully it will be a great TV reception and your favorite team will win. Enjoy your weekend with your family.

I thought about you last night as I reading over Angst’s UGA application. They have the most painfully slow sight I’ve used since the days of dial up, but after the 10 minutes it took me to get through a five page application, I found everything in order and clicked submit only to find out you cannot pay after 9:30pm. Do they realize that I’m not actually sending them dollars through the tubes, so no one has to really be there to receive them?
The Tech application, although much lengthier, was a breeze to navigate, and I was able to pay at my normal late hour.

Oh, and I’ve sent the boys some UGA paraphernalia. Maybe I’ll get them some Tech stuff too, just in case they inherit the good Doctor’s smarts and need to go to a real school.

It’s me again. Feel free to ignore all of the above trash talking since it’s coming from a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi who secretly wanted nothing more than to matriculate at Georgia in her college days.

Hmm, football.
I do understand not being able to watch things. I missed hockey SO much during our 3.5 years abroad. We signed up for the crappier tv service here just so we could get my beloved Flyers again.

I see Timmins is still a bastion of patience around your place.
Yes, Bob the Builder is big here, and I know because my cousin’s daughter wanted to decorate her room in Bob stuff. My cousin flipped out because it wasn’t girly enough and made her daughter get Disney princesses instead. I thought it was pretty funny.

As for Bob the Builder, I’ve heard of him. But my son is too busy playing dress-up with his sister to fool with something like that.

There were several lines this week that I found a bit odd. UGA was one. I would have picked them against any spread approaching at TD, but when they were the favorites I had to pick against them. I’m not betting, though. Just playing college pick’em on Yahoo. Picking college football games against the spread is one of the few things I’m genuinely better than most people at.

I really don’t care who wins (I suppose it will be nice to have a top 5 matchup next week, but that doesn’t really matter.) But, UGA, just don’t get rolled over, OK? Don’t embarrass yourself – preferably play tough and inflict a few key injuries on the other side. Is that too much to ask?

Theresa – Hey, not liking LSU from personal experience counts for me.
Dr. O’C – The signal is beautiful. Game? Not so much so far.
Beth – I’m enjoying the visual, but the game is a little unpleasant so far. Plenty of time.
Aish – He’s going to enjoy it as soon as he wakes up…
TUB – I know. And right now it doesn’t look great. Only down 3, but I can see how overmatched they look.
SciFiDad – You guys have our old QB. Not sure how good he’s been, since I don’t really follow the NFL, but if he’s good then you’re welcome.
Technobabe – Thanks.
Cat – USM, eh?

Andrea -He’s an unwilling, but incredibly patient pony.
Courtney – I’m glad I have boys because that Disney princesses crap would do my head in.
This is painful to watch. Only 6-0, but that’s a big huge 0. A big, fucking donut hole.
NATUI – Well, I was doing a little jig at 6 this morning, but now – not so much.
PIS – I’ve been gone for so long that I don’t even know what the channels are. The Sprout Channel? CW? What happened to NBC, ABC and CBS? Oh and Wendy? Yeah. She is a softball catcher in her spare time. Totally.
DAMMMIT! Why do we have no offense?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Jacob – Well, this line was bull. The only hope for the Dawgs is their D. But if the offense can’t move the damn ball they’re going to run out of gas.
Jamie – Well, it isn’t embarassing yet, but we’re getting there. You may have your hands filled with the Bayou Bengals next week. May be better than most folks thought. That or we really suck.

Boyhowdy – Do they dub it with actors with an American accent? I guess what surprises me is that we’re kind of a xenophobic people. That being said, we’re only xenophobic against dark skinned people. And the French. We’re kind of anglophilic xenophobes.
Ariza – Thanks for the reminder. I may have missed the first hour. Which at this rate, would have been OK.
Heather – Nearly half time and they’re both still asleep.
Hell yes! Another stop by the D! NOW DO SOMETHING YOU DAMNED OFFENSE! DO SOMETHING!!!!!
Damon – No ass kicking here. Yet. Still plenty of football.

Ugh–after watching both our teams yesterday, I have no doubt that UGA will prevail next week. Evidently our receivers have forgotten how to catch the few passes than come their way. We missed one field goal and had an extra point blocked, annnnnnd, the difference was 4 points.

HIF – Thanks for your support, but not quite enough this week. Sorry about your Vols as well.
Ellie – My dawg is pretty unhappy about that whole situation.
Curt – Do you think Martinez? Why not Bobo? Or Fabris? Or the whole lot of them?
Jamie – Yeah, yeah. I think we should beat the buffoon, but will be horribly depressed if we don’t. And then there’s Vandy…
HIF – The good news is that Auburn looks pretty good this year.
SeattleDad – Thanks.
SIS – Yeah, him and everyone else that saw the game.
